The city of Kaštela is located on the coast of the Bay of Kaštela, in the area between the ruins of the ancient Salona and the outskirts of Trogir, from the sea-coast up to the hills of Mount Kozjak. It has over 40 000 inhabitants, and it is the second largest town in the Split and Dalmatia County. It stretches 17 kilometers along the coastline. Town is specific because it developed around 7 historical castels built on the coastline (Kastel - Castle). Each village developed around castels has its own identity, while in the hinterland they are all connected through fertile plain of Kaštela important agricultural site from antiquity till today.

The newly built Marina Kaštela is capable of accommodating large number of private and charter boats. The western part of the town is traditionally more tourism oriented. This is the area with most accommodation capacities: tourist apartments, rooms, camps and hotels. The fist tourist development in Kaštela dates back in 1909 when the fist hotel was developed. Today Resnik tourist resort accounts for the 1/3 of the accommodation capacities of the municipality.

Today Kaštela are fastest growing municipality in the region, with the signifiant migration of young population from the nearby Split. This opens new development potential for Resort Resnik, especially its retail and recreational programmes. Looking at the local context Resort Resnik has a possibility of becoming one of the new centres for the wider Kaštela area. The Resnik Resort with its retail and recreational facilities has the potential of becoming the new center for both the daytime and nighttime activities focused around, restaurants, cafes, recreational amenities, public spaces complementing the urban density and variety of Kaštela life.
